Shepherd’s commitment to personal safety is one more way we bring value to our customers.
Our Occupational Injury Incidence Rate is consistently ~ 25% lower than the national average for U.S. chemical manufacturing facilities in the 50-249 employment size and ~50% lower than the total U.S. chemical industry. However, since most human injuries occur outside of work, our goal is to extend this renowned behavior-based concept beyond the workplace and into the homes of all Shepherd employees.
Using SafeStart® at home as well as at work protects and improves team members’ holistic health and productivity. We have been using SafeStart® since 2006 and it has provided us with a language around safety and mindfulness that we use daily- simple reminders like “eyes on task!” and the practice of starting team meetings with Safestart® stories reinforce daily the need for a constant focus on safety.
With an emphasis on practical error reduction techniques and safety habits, SafeStart reduces the errors that lead to injuries and improves the productivity and quality of our work – all of which translate to a healthier workforce dedicated to error-free processes for our customers.
