Shepherd Chemical offers a portfolio of organic metal carboxylates and inorganic metal salts. Approximately 50% of the products Shepherd supplies are Custom Co-Developed with customers for proprietary applications, one product-one customer. Our business model is primarily focused on developing, scaling and manufacturing specialty chemistry. We don’t generally engage in toll or contract manufacturing services such as blending. Shepherd does partner with clients on R&D for commercial process development from lab to kilo to pilot to full scale.

Shepherd Chemical is constantly looking for new markets and applications where our synthetic and analytical chemistry expertise can create value. With a deep and broad knowledge of developing, scaling and manufacturing custom chemistry, our diverse team of R&D chemists and engineers want to create value with your chemistry. As every opportunity is different, please reach out to us with your idea or challenge. We would love to discuss the potential to partner on R&D.

At Shepherd Chemical, we are committed to environmental stewardship and ensuring the safety of our products throughout their lifecycle. We adhere to rigorous environmental standards and employ several strategies to guarantee the safety of our products:

Compliance with Regulations: We strictly comply with all local, national, and international environmental regulations. This includes adhering to the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) in the EU, as well as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guidelines in the United States.

Research and Development: Our research and development teams are dedicated to creating chemicals that are not only effective but also environmentally friendly. We prioritize the development of products that are biodegradable, have lower toxicity, and reduce environmental impact.

Lifecycle Analysis: We conduct lifecycle analyses of our products to understand and minimize their environmental impact from production to disposal. This involves assessing raw material sourcing, energy use, emissions, and waste management.

Safety Testing: Before any new product is launched, it undergoes extensive safety testing to assess its environmental impact. This includes testing for biodegradability, toxicity to aquatic and terrestrial life, and potential for bioaccumulation.

Continuous Improvement: Our commitment to environmental safety is ongoing. We continually monitor the impact of our products and processes and seek improvements through innovation and technology advancements.

Stakeholder Engagement: We engage with various stakeholders, including environmental groups, industry experts, and the broader community, to ensure our practices meet the highest environmental standards.

Through these measures, we aim to not only comply with but exceed environmental safety standards, ensuring that our products are safe for the environment and beneficial for our customers.

Shepherd Chemical emphasizes strict safety measures for handling chemicals, outlined as follows:

Proper Training: Personnel must receive training on the properties and hazards of each chemical, including how to interpret material safety data sheets (MSDS).

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Appropriate PPE such as gloves, goggles, respirators, and protective clothing is required when handling chemicals.

Engineering Controls: Implementing controls like fume hoods and ventilation systems helps minimize exposure and enhances safety.

Proper Storage: Chemicals must be stored according to regulatory requirements, with segregation of incompatible materials and proper labeling.

Emergency Preparedness: Facilities should have clear emergency protocols, including spill containment and fire safety plans, with regular drills for staff.

Regular Inspections: Equipment and storage facilities should undergo routine inspections and maintenance to ensure safety and regulatory compliance.

Adherence to Regulations: Keeping updated with and adhering to all chemical safety regulations is crucial for safe handling practices.

By adhering to these safety measures, we aim to protect our employees, customers, and the environment from potential risks associated with chemical handling. Safety is a priority at Shepherd Chemical, and we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of care in all our operations.
