Also widely applied in cosmetics and some pharmaceuticals, its low melting point enables bismuth to form alloys that may be used for molds, fire detectors, fire extinguishers, and sprinkler systems. Bismuth Subcarbonate is used as an x-ray opacifier that makes plastic tubing visible to surgeons during procedures.
