Boron
Shepherd Chemical manufactures several products that contain boron as a secondary metal (metalloid), including some of our rubber adhesion promoters and lubricant additives.
Boron is thought to add adhesion strength and performance, as well as tensile tear strength to rubber formulations. It also is thought to increase the anti-wear performance of lubricants when present in additive formulations. Additionally, boron can improve lubricity and improve torque values.
All of Shepherd’s current materials formulated with boron are oil-soluble, either manufactured as viscous liquids or pastillated products. We are also working to develop new boron materials that can be used as individual lubricant additives or formulated as mixtures with other additives.
At Shepherd, we are able to maximize the boron concentration and allow custom formulations by manufacturing boron carboxylates. Currently, we have boron neodecanoate and boron 2-ethylhexanoate in development. Samples are available upon request.
