A reddish metal, copper is a soft, malleable, ductile and an extremely good conductor of heat and electricity making it perfect for electrical wiring. It is the only common metal found in its metallic state and it can be polished to a bright shiny finish. Copper is recovered in various forms including sulfides, carbonates, and oxide.

Copper Nitrate

Shepherd’s Copper Nitrate solution is a blue transparent liquid and possesses a slight nitric acid odor. It is manufactured using high quality copper in a standard 18% solution.

Applications and markets for Copper Nitrate Solution span a wide variety including catalysts, ceramic and enamel color pigments, and as a mordant and oxidant in both textile dyeing and printing inks.

Pyrotechnic compositions use it as a catalyst component, as do certain solid rocket fuels.   We produce it for aluminum brighteners and cleaning products. It is widely used to correct copper deficiencies in soils via fertilizers, micronutrients, fungicides, herbicides and pesticides.  Its corrosive properties allow Copper Nitrate solution to be used as a reagent for burnishing iron, giving a black antique finish to copper, and for coloring zinc brown. In industrial automotive sealants and caulks, Copper Nitrate solution works as a nitrating agent for aromatic organosilicon compounds and as a catalyst for a spectrum of many other organic reactions used to create products we use every day.
