Nylon Heat Stabilizers

Engineered polymer fibers and molded parts have been used for years in the commercial and residential carpet industries, automotive engine accessories, and other markets where durability and weight are a factor. Supported and non-supported Nylon 6, Nylon 6,6 are currently the polymers of choice for these applications. To increase the performance of the native material, polymer manufacturers and compounders introduced additives to increase resistance to temperature and U.V. degradation. These additives fall into two distinct chemical classes; Organic and Inorganic.

For more than 25 years, Shepherd Chemical has manufactured high purity inorganic salts specifically tailored for nylon polymer stabilization. These salts can be used individually or combined in a blend to create the desired performance enhancements.

Shepherd Chemical provides custom blends of Potassium Bromide, Potassium Iodide, Cuprous Iodides, and a metal stearate binder as a free flowing powder additive. If dust handling is an issue, a dustless pelletized concentrate of a desired blend is offered for ease and safety in handling these materials.

If you are not sure which blend ratio is best for your application, contact our Specialty Chemical Division technical representative who can offer one of our standard blends or pelletized concentrates.

Please consider these inorganic salts as a cost effective replacement for traditional organic heat stabilizer additives.
